SAVE-A-LOT STORE

The Village of Holley is pleased to announce a Save-A-Lot store will open in the village at the end of February 2012.  Earlier this month, a $177,000 community block grant was awarded by the NYS Department of Housing and Community Development, and work has begun in earnest at the former Jubilee Store. President and Chief Operating Officer, Jerome Pawlak of Albion, has invested countless hours and the necessary capital to bring a grocery store here, something that has been absent since the Jubilee Foods store closed in 2006. Mayor John Kenney told the Batavia Journal-Register recently, "Jerome has put his faith in our community. Now are are going to step up our support. This is something that we've been missing for too long."

The store will employ at least 22 workers. It will feature fresh fruits and vegetables locally grown. Also, Holley's Save-A-Lot will offer a full USDA meat selection and baked goods. According to Mayor Kenney, much of the grant effort was greatly helped by Assemblyman Steve Hawley, State Senator George Maziarz, and Congresswoman Kathy Hochul. It was during a September visit to Holley for a "Congress on the Corner" event that Ms. Hochul recognized the essential need to bring a full-service grocery store here. Her office moved these efforts forward, on behalf of our community, citing the need to bring affordably priced foods to the village and to help grow the local economy. As a village, we are grateful for the time, funding, and enormous work that has been devoted to this project.

Holiday Tree Lighting
Christmas Tree
Holiday Tree Lighting
Nearly 100 names were read aloud by Mayor John Kenney as residents remembered loved ones with the annual memory tree lighting.
Waiting for the holiday parade to begin
Two of the village's dedicated citizens (and a third in the making!) waited for the holiday parade to pass. Assistant Fire Chief, Peter Hendrickson, his son, Dustin, and Trustee David Dill enjoyed the mild winter weather while waiting for Santa and the decorated fire trucks to come.
A full fire house of good cheer!
It was a larger than usual turn-out for the annual reception promptly held at the Fire Hall after the parade.
Holley High School Chorus
The Holley High School Chorus, along with the Holley High School Band, did a great job bringing the holiday spirit alive in us all as they sang and played some of our favorites. What a wonderful treat to have them with us!
Pizza, snacks, hot chocolate and lemonade
All who came out for the annual fire hall reception were treated to pizza, chips, and popcorn. The Village Clerk's Office, including Charlene Sielaff, Karen Pearson, Mary Ellen Ridley, were on hand to serve and greet all those ready for a snack. Don Wharram from the Electric Dept and Roxanne Lone, clerk treasurer, served up hot chocolate and coffee to help warm those who came in to enjoy the holiday celebration.
Quite a crowd for a holiday get-together!
Families and friends from the village and elsewhere came out to enjoy the music, lights, and tell Santa just what their Christmas wishes are for this year.
